Hotel Profile :
In 1931, the 27 year old Nawab of Bahawalpur built a large European-style summer residence for himself up in the cool Himalayan jungles of Kangra district. He laid out lush gardens, built a glass pleasure pavilion and a mosque and christened his country palace Al Hilal (The Crescent Moon).
The Nawab decided to settle in Pakistan and the grand property went to the Punjab government. Maharani Tara Devi of Kashmir, who had been raised in the Kangra Valley, approached the Punjab government for the evacuee property and finally acquired it in 1950. The glass pleasure pavilion was converted into a temple and the new home was renamed Taragarh. The Maharani moved between her Jammu palace and Taragarh. In 1971, Dr. Karan Singh, Maharani Tara Devi's only son, decided to convert his property into a hotel.
Taragarh Palace is situated on a 15 acre forested estate surrounded by tea gardens in the Kangra valley, one of the most scenic and unexplored areas of Himachal Pradesh. Located at a height of 1000 metres Taragarh Palace is at the foot of the Dhauladhar mountains offering a magnificent view of the snow capped peaks. The Kangra valley is one of the most scenic and unexplored areas of Himachal Pradesh today, and the Palace, surrounded by tea gardens, offers splendid views of snowy peaks.
